Purification of the Soul

Compiled from the works of: Ibn Hanbal, Ibn al-Qayyim al Jawziyya and Abu Hamid al-Ghazali

This book offers a deep insight into issues that are personal to every person, the state of ones heart. Offering a theoretical coverage of the different types of heart and in turn states that a human can take, this is a must read for a good understanding of oneself.  The actions, attitudes and attributes of people in these different states are outlined in the latter stage. A useful insight into the human psyche is found here, as well as offering a comprehensive overview of ways to incline towards our Lord (swt) and methods that can be employed to purify ones heart. Allah (swt) mentions that ‘The day on which neither wealth nor sons will be of any use, except for whoever brings to Allah a sound heart’ (26:88-89) and the main aim of this book seems to be aspiring towards this very goal. An easy read that draws the reader in with the amazing effect of everyone being able to relate to the issues discussed, and I say this with confidence. We’re all distracted at times by the dazzle of the world, but the thing that differentiates us as Muslims from others is that our hearts come back to our Lord (swt) and a highlight of this book is that it brings forth an understanding of this very factor.
